MLS (Major League Soccer)
This is America’s most popularly played soccer competition and was started in 1996. The season for MLS lasts from March to December of the same year and consists of 32 teams. Each team plays on average 38 games throughout the entire season which equates to a total of 168 games. This is compared to MLB’s 162 games mentioned above.
The way that MLS determines who makes it into their post-season is based on their regular season record, but they don’t penalize any team as they make their way through the post-season tournament. This means that one team will be crowned the winner at the end of their season and will become the champion of MLS.
European Soccer (The Champions League)
Much like MLS, soccer in Europe provides an interesting way to determine who wins their major competition as well. The Champions League is open to all professional soccer teams located in Europe and each team competes with each other to determine who the champion becomes at the end of their season.
